...Starting small but with giant ideas
Why have a market stall at your event that just sells gifts, a market stall that sells jewellery, a market stall that sells toys, a market stall that sells objet d'art and a market stall that sells items for re-enactors when you can have one stall that sells it all
What are we about?
Both Alison and Matt wanted to start a craft business with their talents to make nice things, but they wanted to do much more than just that...
So they decided that they would also find nice things that they loved and that they knew other people would love. So Hawthorn crafts began to grow into something else. A place where people could find beautiful and fun fantasy inspired gifts and toys alongside hand made art, crafty stuff and jewellery.
Who are Hawthorn Crafts?
Matt has been interested in art as long as anyone can remember and Northern European,Viking, and Anglo-Saxon, art since his mid teens.
Matt likes drawing and messing about with paint which he has been for most of his life, but wood carving has been his passion for the past four or five years.
His main influences are the tales and beliefs of Northern Europe. Some of Matt's carvings are based on historical finds and some draw inspiration from the works of fantasy writers like J.R.R. Tolkien. Being quite versatile he has also turned his hand to other wood carving projects such as animals and natural forms.
Alison has been experimenting with glass based jewellery for the past few years and likes to work a lot with glass beads and metal to create her own designs.
Both Alison and Matt have been Viking/Anglo Saxon re-enactors in their spare time since around 2006 and have been collaborating on crafting projects since 2011
The place we call home is that part of the English Midlands that is affectionately known by its occupants as the Black Country.
